How-to: Set up POP3 accounts in Microsoft Outlook

This article explains how to set up new e-mail accounts that use the POP3 protocol in a step-by-step guide.


1. Open Microsoft Outlook.

2. From the main menu, select Tools -} E-Mail Accounts as shown below.

3. From the next window, under E-mail, select Add a new e-mail account and press Next as shown below.

4. From the Server Type window, select POP3 and press Next.

5. On the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) window, enter all the required details, i.e. your name or company name, e-mail address, POP3 and SMTP servers, and your login details. After these have been entered, press the More Settings... button.

6. On the Internet E-mail Settings screen, highlight the Outgoing Server tab, put a tick in the first box, and highlight the first radio button labeled "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" as outlined below and press OK.

7. On the previous screen, press the Next > button.

8. When all settings have been entered, you should be presented with a "success" screen like the one shown below.
