A new virus has been discovered, which apparently will delete all mp3
files in its path. The virus, "
W32/Deletemp3.worm"
or "
W32.Deletemusic", will attach itself to system
files and will begin its work after a re-boot.
When activated, the virus will disable the Task Manager and the
context menu in Explorer. It also creates the files
"csrss.exe" and "autorun.inf" on all disk drives
with the drive letters E to O. This is targeted at USB media like USB
memory keys or pen drives, and the virus will infect other computers
which these are inserted into after the manipulation.
This means it might be time to back up your music files, or better
yet the entire system. You should also use caution when plugging your
memory keys into untrusted or public computers. Virus definitions and
updates for this virus are already available from
Symantec and
McAfee.
